Did you know that it takes 20,000 litres of water to irrigate 1 kilo of cotton fibre? This has become a growing concern in recent years due to shortages of water all around the world.

All our bed linen & robes are made from 400 thread count bamboo. To name a few of the amazing properties of bamboo :

> SAVES WATER
Bamboo is known to require only 1/3 the water to grow compared to cotton

> NO PESTICIDES OR HERBICIDES
Unlike cotton, bamboo can be grown completely organically

> SOFTNESS
A 400 thread count bamboo linen almost feels like a 500 thread count cotton linen. It is often compared with the likes of Egyptian Cotton

> ANTIBACTERIAL & ODOR RESISTANT
Bamboo contains natural agents which are known to resist bacteria & smell

> BIODEGRADABLE
Bamboo is biodegradable. Cotton is not. This is an important fact considering that most hotels typically stock 3 sets of linen per room, and replace them at least once every year.

GREEN DESIGN

Extensive efforts have been made to ensure that our villas are environmental friendly. Doing our part for the environment does not always have to cost a lot of money.
Here are some of the many steps we took to play our part for the earth’s better future.

We have also included a quick "cost" indicator for those of you who are interested in trying some of these ideas yourselves . ( $ = cheap, $$ = moderate, $$$ = expensive )

> RE-CYCLED MATERIALS / $
100% of all internal wood panels ( including all furniture ) are made from teak off-cuts collected from factories which would otherwise have been thrown away. Our recycled-teak panels are fabricated by joining these thousands of small pieces of teak together into panels. The final finished effect is amazing, and we are very proud of our achievements.

> SOURCING STONES FROM LOCAL QUARIES / $
100% of all natural stones used in Amana Villas are sourced from local quarries. Singaraja Stone ( brown colour with lots of texture ) is sourced from the northern part of Bali, and Paliman Stone ( creamy white colour ) is sourced from Java. As such, our carbon footprints have been largely reduced since we do not import.

> NATURAL COOLING WATERFALL SYSTEM / $$$
Our one of a kind Waterfall & Signature Villas is designed in such a way that the infinity swimming pool is placed on the upper level, and it over flows as a waterfall gently into a pond below where the master bedroom is. This creates a natural liquid cooling system that recycles itself as the water is pumped back into the swimming pool again.

> NATURAL VENTILATION / $$
The shutter doors or sliding doors in all villas are able to open on at least 2 sides of the entire face of the building to allow for maximum natural ventilation. ( of course we have air condition fitted as well for your extra comforts )

> SUBTERRENEAN COOLING / $$$
The lower floors of the Waterfall & Signature Villas are naturally cooled as they are partially sunken underground.

> NOISE REDUCING ROOFING / $$
Onduline roof is used for 100% of the buildings. Onduline has noise reduction properties and protects our guests from the noisy torrential rains of equatorial Bali.

> BIO SEPTIC WASTE MANAGEMENT / $$
This environmentally friendly method of septic treatment degrades all human waste over time, and can be fed back into the water system to water plants.

> DEEP WELL / $$
Mother Earth has blessed us with natural water streams below ground. We dug two wells 60 metres below ground to allow for this water to be used. Only when natural water runs out, will we switch automatically to the national grid water supply. This water is carefully filtered to remove carbon, smell, and debris.

> CURRENT STABILIZERS / $$$
Unknown to many, Bali's electric supply is not stable. Current fluctuates drastically and decreases the lifespan of light bulbs, air cons and all other electronic equipment. It even causes harm to laptops too. Electric stabilizers costing close to USD800 each is installed in every villa, increasing the lifespan of all electronic equipment by more than 70%, and also protecting your personal processions from unwarranted harm.

> ELECTRICAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEM / $$
Keycard Key-tech & Timer Systems are used where required to conserve energy.

> HIGH RESOLUTION LED LIGHTING / $$$
LED Tubes with high pixilation are used in all outdoor areas to conserve energy.

> MICRO FIBRE BLINDS / $$$
The blinds in our lobby are made of micro-fibre. This allows for the continuous flow of wind circulation and visual transparency while it keeps out the rain ! A true invention of the 21st century.

E-NEWSPAPER ( iPAD ) vs TRADITIONAL PRINT

The average yearly newspaper subscription generates 550 pounds ( 250 Kilograms ) of paper waste per subscription per year. With 16 villas at Amana Villas, we would effectively be wasting 8800 pounds ( 4000 kilograms ) of paper per year.

At Amana Villas, we continue our efforts to conserve the falling of trees by providing our guests with complimentary iPads upon request. The internet is a much more environmental friendly way to search and read the news, and it helps us play our part in preserving the fast depleting forests of the world.

Amana Villas has established a "Change for the Environment" campaign where guests are welcome to donate some or all of their left over change upon check out. “Change for the Environment’ is co-sponsored by Amana and Gus Bali, for the preservation of Bali's beautiful beaches & natural habitat, with the aim of keeping Bali clean for generations to come.
